9/2/08 – (Hewitt, NJ) – August 29th – 31st would be round 5 of the Brian Stewart Kart Racing Championship in conjunction with the Windsor Karting Grand Prix held on a temporary circuit in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The track would be partly parking lot in a park going up onto the street. It was a short, tight and a challenging course. The setting was incredible as the track ran right next to the huge river with the view across being Detroit. Up on the street part of the track it ran right in front of the huge Cesar’s Casino.

Cole was scheduled to race his new Evolution Kart in the TaG class on Sunday. He was once again being sponsored by SQ Motorsports/3-S Go-Karts International.

Friday was scheduled as a full day of practice, but due to rain coming in for the morning hours there was a delay starting. When the rain cleared out we were only able to get in 3 rounds of practice. At the end of practice day the team was feeling comfortable with the Kart and Track.

On Race day the weather was picture perfect with clear blue skies and the temp around 80 degrees. After 1 round of practice things seemed to be working just right. Cole went out in qualifying and unfortunately with 20 Karts on a small track you can’t avoid lapping other drivers in your qualifying session. Despite all of the lapped traffic, Cole managed to put his Evolution Kart in 2nd spot for the starting position in the Pre-Final, a mere 2 100ths of a second off pole sitter Michael Glaze.

Cole and the team knew they had their work cut out for them in the Pre-Final. The Pre-Final was to be 10 laps. At the start on lap one Michael Glaze managed to take 1st spot and Cole settled right into second. On lap 2 coming down the straight into turn 1 Cole was able to slip around Michael on the inside and take control of the lead. From that point on Cole stayed in the top spot. He had to drive a flawless race because Glaze was close behind waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The race would end with Cole winning, Glaze in 2nd followed by Treadwell in 3rd.

The 20 lap final started with Cole on the pole. As they came down the straight to take the green flag Cole came right out of turn 1 in the top spot. He was quickly able to get out to a comfortable lead over Glaze. By lap 11 the lapped traffic came into play. Cole had to quickly maneuver his Kart through the lapped traffic. This happening gave Glaze the chance to close the gap. Cole displayed some great driving skills working his way through the lapped traffic. There were points when Glaze came very close, but never got the opportunity to make a pass on Cole. In the last 2 laps of the race Cole got a clear track and started to put some distance between himself and 2nd place. A great win for Cole and the new Evolution kart.

At the awards ceremony Cole was awarded a beautiful plaque and a check for $250.

Cole would also like to take this opportunity to give special Thanks to Carlos Goncalves and Enzo Chiovitti from SQ Motorsports/3-S Go Karts International for giving him a great Kart to work with and sponsoring him at these races. Also Cole would like to thank Luke Chiovitti and Enzo Chiovitti Junior for all of their input and advice.

Cole will be heading back to Canada on September 13 – 14 to compete in the Final Round of the Brian Stewart Series. The next event will be held in Toronto, Ontario at Downsview Park.
