9/16/2008 – (Hewitt, NJ) – September 13th – 14th would be the final round of the Brian Stewart Kart Racing Championship held at Parc Downsview Park in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Cole would be competing in the TaG 125 Class on his SQ Evolution Kart.

The track was quite interesting as it was a temporary course set up on an old air strip. This park used to be a Military Base and an airport and is now being used for various things. BSRKC - Downsview Park Finale - Saturday - Cody Schindel

Mann Racing was not able to attend the all day Friday practice and arrived on Saturday afternoon to attend the evening practice that was being held from 4 to 8. The forecast was for 80% rain all day, but they were able to complete the race day with no rain rolling in until the evening practice. Cole got 5 laps of practice in the dry and then the rain came in and never left. The next two sessions Cole went out in full rain set up on his Evolution Kart and it was all working perfectly he was really fast. His sponsors Carlos and Enzo were confident that Cole had the right set up for rain racing on Sunday.

Weather forecast for Sunday was again 80% rain and high winds. Sunday morning came and it was somewhat clearing skies. There was not very good drainage on the track so there were many big puddles. Rain set up was used for the 1st and only round of practice. When it came time for qualifying it was deemed drivers choice for tires. The TaG 125 Class was the 5th class scheduled to hit the track for qualifying. The previous 4 classes a majority went out on the rain set up.

We made the wrong decision for Cole and sent him out on the rain set up for Qualifying. There were only 2 puddles left at that time and they could be somewhat avoided. Most of the class went out on slicks and who ever went out on slicks qualified in front of the drivers that went out on rain tires. Cole qualified in 8th position.

The Heat was was 10 laps and Cole managed to finish that race in 4th position. But after all that he suffered a DQ and would have to start from last in the Final.

In the 20 lap Final Cole started from the back of the field. This was no problem for him as he showed the crowd that he could put himself and his SQ Evolution once again on the Podium! On lap one Cole passed 4 karts in 2 turns and just kept going forward from there. His biggest asset was he was out breaking most of the drivers going into the turn at the end of the straight away and just passing them effortlessly deep into the turn. Cole managed to work his way up to 3rd spot. That would be as far as he would be able to get because he had to make all of those passes coming from the rear of the pack so position 1 and 2 were able to jump out to a comfortable lead.

When Cole came in to the scales at the end of the race we also discovered that at some point of the race his left rear tire was losing air and was almost flat, but he still managed to keep his charge going forward and finish on the Podium.

Due to schedule conflicts Cole was only able to attend ½ of the races in this series, but still has managed to finish 5th overall in the points for this series. At the banquet to be held in November Brian Stewart honors the top 5 from each class.

Cole would like to give thanks to all of his partners for their continued support of his racing career. Thanks to Carlos Goncalves and Enzo Chiovitti from SQ Motorsports/3-S Go-Karts International, Shupp’s Kart Shop, Flemming Motorsports, Savage Designs, World Wide Bearings and Walters Web Designs.
