Cole Mann - Round 2 - Manufacturer's Cup - Lowes Motor Speedway - Feb 29 - March 2 Written By: Cole Mann Racing 3/7/08 (Hewitt, NJ) -- Round 2 of the WKA's Manufacturer's Cup was held this past weekend Feb 29 - March 2 at Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord, NC. Practice Day was a bit cool with temps in the low 50's and very windy. For both race days it was clear sunshine and temps in the high 60's. Practice day went pretty well. Cole seemed to get faster as the day went on. One thing that worried us was towards the end of the day the kart seemed to break loose in the middle of the turn. We made some adjustments that we hoped would take care of the problem the next day for racing.
Race Day 1 - Cole would be racing HPV Lite and TaG 1. The day didn't start off that great and went down hill from there. In HPV Lite there were 17 drivers to Qualify. Once again there was a field of seasoned drivers. Cole qualified in 8th. When he came in from qualifying he told us that the Kart was not good in the turns. We made a change and in the Pre-Final Cole had a great start and went backwards. He finished 9th. In the Final he managed to hang on to finish 7th with a Kart that was just not working for him. In TaG 1 there were 43 Karts trying to qualify for 30 spots. Cole qualified 11th. In the Pre-Final again he had a great start and slowly went backwards to finish in 13th. In the Final Cole once again got going with a great start but as the 18 laps went on each lap his Kart got looser and looser in the turns and he slowly went backwards and there was nothing he could do about it. He finished in 17th position. Back to the garage and many changes had to be made for racing the next day. The more rubber that was down on the track the more problems Cole had.
Race Day 2 - Cole would be racing HPV Heavy and TaG 2. The day pretty much went in the same direction as Saturday. In the HPV Heavy class there were 18 karts qualifying. Cole qualified 11th. In the Pre-Final he managed to work his way up to 8th and in the Final he finished 9th. In TaG 2 there were 35 Karts trying to qualify for 30 spots. Cole qualified 12th. In the Pre-Final he managed to finish in 11th spot. In the final he got out to a great start, came out in lap 1 in 6th spot and once again went backwards to finish in the 13th position. Over all Cole did not end up with the results on the weekend that he was hoping for, but we are very proud of his driving and his never give up attitude that he displayed knowing that he had a kart and set up that just was not working for him. He drove hard from start to finish. After much discussion with various sources we found that the Chassis that Cole was driving were just not the right one's for the higher horsepower classes that he is now competing in. Lesson Learned and we will now be moving on to something different for him for the next race! Cole Mann Racing would like to thank their partners for their continued support of his racing career.
